Baby Carrots Dipped In Chlorine

Here's another reason to buy organic. You know those cute little carrots you dip in ranch dressing and gobble down like "Bugs Bunny." After finishing your snack, you feel all warm inside because you know that you just had a serving of vegetables for the day. Not so fast. You just ate some orange, chlorine sticks. That's right, processed baby carrots are dunked in a chlorine bath before they're packaged. For at least 5 minutes, these peeled chunks are washed with chlorinated water to minimize bacterial growth. The food industry says it's harmless. We know better. Next time, buy some organic carrots, and cut them into little pieces. If you really want more chlorine in your diet, go drink some tap water. ........Matt

"After harvesting, the carrots are washed in chlorinated water, just like our drinking water, and cleaned to remove dirt and mud. Some finished baby carrots are washed, or dipped, by a further chlorine solution to prevent white blushing once in the store. There is no evidence that this is harmful, but it is worth knowing about!. However organic growers use a citrus based non toxic solution called Citrox."(carrotmuseum.co.uk)

Hi, some baby carrots are grown as baby carrots. Those ones are not a part of the problem. I have written a page about baby carrots called Baby Carrots ~~ When Is A Carrot Not A Carrot?. You might enjoy reading it.
