Wonder

WONDER

 Looking outside makes me wonder.
What happens when they take the thunder
and the lightning from our sighs
and replace them with their robot eyes?

Just how close can we get to nature,
as greedy profiteers continue to waste her?
when powerful forces are strongly aligned
against her, humanity, what's yours and mine?

Genetically modifying our crops.
Putting down starts and pulling out stops.
Poisoning every sky and stream.
Trying to alter even our dream.

Brainwashing and blood toxifying.
Suppressing dissent and always lying.

Keeping us disjointed, flabbergasted,
as they erase names on the masthead.

Swimming in ever deeper sewage seas,
depleted of purifying energies.

Trying to separate us from our source:
the soil, wind, and rain. Of course.

Replacing spirit with product, they
wish us harm, wish we'd go away.

Transferring consciousness
to a social network,
sports event,
or trivial fun, smirk.

 Radiant Sister of the Day!
Awake! arise! and come away!

To the wild woods and the plains,
To the pools where winter rains

Image all the roof of leaves,
Where the pine its garland weaves
Sapless, grey and ivy dun
Round stems that never kiss the sun --

To the sandhills of the sea
Where the earliest violets be.

--Percy Bysshe Shelley
"The Pine Forest of the
Cascine Near Pisa" (1824)
